MISPLACED SECULARISM

Post independence there was a school of thought to continue with Muslim electorate in consonance with British policy where this was introduced to ensure Muslim representation in Parliament. On this proposal Mr Vallabh Bhai Patel who enjoyed equal stature of Mr Jawahar Lal Nehru retorted and rejected this. He also said that we Indians have chosen to be secular as we reject idea of a nation based on religion. He continued to say that we are secular and there is no place for promoting a particular religion in secular India. Later he roared that those who wish such privileges should go to Pakistan as there was no place for such people in India. That was the spirit of young secular India, unfortunately we lost this spirit very soon. I guess with death of Mr Vallabh Bhai Patel Mr Jawahar Lal Nehru became the only leader with larger than life size image and started appeasement. As years passed by the line between appeasement and secularism blurred rapidly and today we have only appeasement and in the process the interest of nation are lost somewhere. Its time now that Muslims realize this and come forward and be part of mainstream where the dream is to make our nation stronger. Jai Hind.
